Aggressive sales tactics over the phone

6 December 2019

We have become aware that some members have received unwelcome phone calls from salespeople.

These salespeople are employing aggressive sales tactics to encourage you to roll your super from TWUSUPER to another super fund – often without giving you enough time to properly think things through.

If you receive one of these cold calls, you can:

  • ignore the call
  • ask the person to stop calling you, or
  • ask for more time to make a decision.

You can also ask them to remove your details from their lists and you can register your details on the Government's No Call Register.

Choosing a super fund should never be a hurried decision. Having the right super fund is an important decision that can set you up for a long, happy and comfortable retirement.

Many members have death and disability insurance through their super. Closing your super account without knowing if you can get insurance cover or the same level of cover for the same price in the other fund can have detrimental consequences for you and your loved ones.

You can visit MoneySmart, a website run by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) that provides independent information on all things finance. It provides information on superannuation scams and what to do if you think you have been scammed.

TWUSUPER is the Industry Super Fund for the people who keep Australia moving and is run only to benefit members.
