Most TWUSUPER members aged 18 and over automatically get Death and Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover when they join.
Members aged under 18 can also receive insurance cover, but need to apply for it as voluntary cover.

Your insurance needs
Before making any decisions about changing cover, call us on 1800 222 071 between 8am and 8pm (AEST/AEDT) weekdays. We can tell you your basic insurance cover (if eligible) and what it costs, and let you know what your insurance fees (premiums) would be if you changed your cover. Apply for additional insurance or reduce your cover
If you're a new TWUSUPER member, you can apply (through Member Online) for an additional unit of Death and TPD cover without providing evidence of health. You need to apply within 120 days of the date of your Insurance Welcome letter.
And if you're a new Group 2 or 3 member, you can apply (through Member Online) for income protection cover within 120 days of the date of your Insurance Welcome letter, with an easier, quicker and simpler application process than would otherwise apply.

Fixed cover lets you keep the dollar amount of your basic insurance cover the same over time so it doesn't decrease with your age.

Have insurance elsewhere?
If you have insurance with another super fund or life insurer, you can apply to transfer that cover to your TWUSUPER account without providing medical history.
The type of cover you are transferring must be the same as the type of cover you are applying for with TWUSUPER.
Lifetime event insurance cover
Throughout your life insurance needs change.
Lifetime event cover provides extra Death and TPD cover for specific life events such as a salary increase, marriage, having a child (including adoption), getting a mortgage, the death of a spouse, divorce, a child starting school or becoming eligible for Centrelink Carer's Allowance.
The insurer must receive your application:
- within no more than 60 days of the event, or
- within 60 days after the next member statement is issued to you after the event.

Reducing or cancelling cover
You can reduce or cancel cover, but if you reapply for cover later you will need to provide medical evidence.
